Sports Advisory Committee seeks new members
May 16, 2013
Have a passion for active recreation? The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District's Sports Advisory Committee needs you.
The group provides an opportunity for interested Park District residents to actively support athletic facilities that are safe, secure, healthy and fun, said Janet Allison, committee chair. Terms are two or three years, and participation typically requires only a few hours per month.
Meetings are held at 1 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at THPRD's Athletic Center, located within the Howard M. Terpenning Recreation Complex at 158th and Walker Road, Beaverton. Visitors are welcome.
The committee reviews plans for new and upgraded parks and also seeks creative ways to enhance existing parks, fields and activities. The committee has helped provide scoreboards and dugout covers at Sunset Park and the HMT Complex, a beginner skate park and two play structures at HMT, and a restroom at THPRD’s PCC Rock Creek Recreation Facility.
The Sports Advisory Committee oversees the Baseball/Softball Steering Committee, which directs youth sports; the All Sports Steering Committee, which manages adult volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis; and the Unified Fields Steering Committee, which coordinates use of all athletic fields.
Application forms can be found here. They must be completed and returned to the attention of Anne Bookless, THPRD, 15707 SW Walker Road, Beaverton, OR 97006.
Appointees will be approved by the THPRD Board of Directors. For more information about the Sports Advisory Committee, call Julie Rocha, THPRD’s Athletic Center supervisor, at 503/629-6330.
Formed in 1955, THPRD is the largest special park district in Oregon, spanning about 50 square miles and serving more than 220,000 residents in the greater Beaverton area. The district provides year-round recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Offerings include thousands of widely diverse classes, more than 90 park sites with active recreational amenities, 60 miles of trails, eight swim centers, six recreation centers, and 1,400 acres of nature preserve.
